Artist Statement

Using different materials, I create organic forms and use hand building techniques that render each work that I make unique. My meticulous craftsmanship and the originality, with which I work, explore the outer limits of my materials and the interaction between them. I am fascinated by the tactile potential of sculpture, the intimacy between my work and me. I intend to create a conversation between me and the material. I see these pieces as living things that provoke sensations of touch in order to attract the attention of the audience. My process is based on important aspects such as creating forms with clay allowing me to make abstract shapes and explores how gravity works into the forms, create textures and surfaces that translate into details, and the provocative aspect of getting close and feel the texture, incorporating steel, copper and aluminum wire gives a touch energy movement and creates that these forms belongs to a certain space.

The beginning of each work starts with a basic ceramic slab in space. the manipulation of the material in which I cut, push, poke, squeeze, stroke, fold, caress, and pinch to make the form itself. After creating the abstract shape, I make a texture and generate interaction between a series wires, nails, underglazes or glazes which compose a piece with character. My textures are rich of form, size, and material to accomplish visual effects and importance to the sculpture Having all this procedure as consideration, I make each piece part of its own environment or space where it belongs. transmitting effects along with the concept or idea behind the art work. I am influenced on behavioral episodes, mood sensation, and life events. Personal situations along with the material and the way of controlling the surfaces evoke my point across. The look creates attractiveness, beauty, and recognitions of interactions. Insanity, one of the qualities on my pieces allows me to bring diversity of textures, depth to the pieces. My biggest goal is to cause impression and compelling desire to experience to touch and break the rules. Where they belong is what it dictates what kind of living thing it is and the impact that it can diffuse to the viewer.
